It's reported that world's largest steelmaker ArcelorMittal plans to cut 1,400 jobs, more than half its 2,600 strong workforce of the Zenica unit in Bosnia due to its lowest productivity in Europe. Several hundred workers protested last Thursday over the plans in front of company's headquarters in Zenica. Labor union leader Mr. Zuhdija Kapetanovic threatended with daily protests and hourly work stoppages unless the plan is revoked, added that the company is increasing productivity at the cost of the workers and the plan must stop. The company's general manager Mr. Mukund Kulkarnidid said it is crucial to boost productivity if the plant wants to remain competitive and survive in these tough times. The plant produced around 600,000 tons of steel in 2011.
